Major milestones in the institutional history of our faculty
| 1982 |
Establishment of the Faculty of Arts and SciencesMarmara University Faculty of Arts and Sciences was established on 20 July 1982 under the founding deanship of Prof. Dr. Hakkı Dursun YILDIZ, initially comprising the Departments of Mathematics, Turkish Language and Literature, and History. The faculty began education on 8 November 1982 in its temporary building in Fındıkzade. |
| 1991 |
Relocation to the Göztepe CampusIn 1991, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences moved to its building on the Göztepe Campus and continued its educational and scientific research activities there. |
| 2022 |
Establishment of the Faculty of SciencePursuant to Presidential Decision No. 5868 dated 25 July 2022, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences was closed and reorganised as the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Its academic heritage in the natural sciences continued under the newly established Faculty of Science. |

Institutional OrganisationA comprehensive transition and organisational process was carried out to establish the academic and administrative structure of the new faculty and to ensure the uninterrupted continuation of student, personnel, and educational procedures. |

Faculty Secretary’s OfficeIn November 2025, Serdar DEMİRCİOĞLU assumed office as Faculty Secretary of the Faculty of Science. With this appointment, the administrative structure of the Faculty Secretary’s Office was strengthened within the framework of institutional continuity. |

Administrative Organisation and Institutional Continuity
Administrative coordination during the transition period and the Faculty Secretary’s Office
Ali Murat BALKAN
Ali Murat BALKAN, who served as Faculty Secretary of the former Faculty of Arts and Sciences, continued his duties as Faculty Secretary of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences established in 2022. During the transition period, when a separate Faculty Secretary had not yet been appointed to the Faculty of Science, he also made significant contributions to the conduct of administrative procedures associated with the Faculty Secretary’s Office of the Faculty of Science, without holding an acting appointment. He was appointed Assistant Secretary General of Marmara University in 2025.
Serdar DEMİRCİOĞLU
Serdar DEMİRCİOĞLU assumed office as Faculty Secretary of the Faculty of Science in November 2025. With this appointment, the administrative structure of the Faculty Secretary’s Office was strengthened within the framework of institutional continuity.
