Message of Dean

Dear Members of Our Faculty and Dear Students

With the President's Decision published in the Official Gazette dated July 25, 2022, and numbered 5868, the Faculties of Arts and Sciences in 15 universities were closed, while Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences were established in 15 universities and Faculty of Science in 12 universities. Marmara University Faculty of Arts and Sciences, which started its activities in 1982 with the appointment of Prof.Dr.Hakkı Dursun YILDIZ as the founding dean, made very important contributions to both the fields of science, humanities, and social sciences at the national and international level under the admirable leadership of our deceased scholar. On this occasion, I respectfully commemorate and express my gratitude to our administrators and academicians at all levels, who have contributed to this scientific development and contribution process, and  as well as all the administrative staff  since its establishment.

The academic staff at the Faculty of Science, where I was appointed as the founding deputy dean on August 22, 2022, achieved significant successes in both education and research with their scientific studies of remarkable quality and quantity, and made remarkable contributions to the fields of basic sciences and related technology. These contributions will continue to accelerate with the restructuring process, and our motivation, which has increased with the restructuring, will carry our success even further. In the new structuring period, science will be considered as the top priority criterion in decision and management processes, and maximum academic participation will be sought to engage the common mind. While working to increase our academic performance on a continuous basis and to support technological developments; On the other hand, we have to train the young academic/research staff of the future. We live in a period in which postgraduate and even undergraduate students are supported to carry out scientific studies under the supervision of their teachers and even as executives, with publicly supported projects. In order to contribute quantitatively and qualitatively to the research staff in our country, we should encourage our students to be involved in project-based support programs and working processes. In this context, we should strive to keep our undergraduate/graduate education programs and laboratories up-to-date and develop them in accordance with the advances in science and technology. In addition to in-house supports, project-based scientific studies to be carried out by providing external budget support, especially TÜBİTAK, will have a great importance in this development. Our primary goal in our newly established Faculty of Science is to provide the scientific developments required by the information era or the digital age as soon as possible and to the maximum extent possible. Our mission is to educate students who can examine nature and natural/scientific processes in accordance with the cause-effect relationship under the guidance of the mind, have high analytical thinking, R&D and innovation skills, are open to change, have a sense of social responsibility, have developed a sense of social responsibility and have acquired the basic knowledge required by the age. I believe that our university and all our faculty of science academicians will contribute significantly to our restructuring and development process.

Kind regards,

Prof. Dr. Ali Rıza ÖZKAYA
